Tell us the story behind Sleekform, how did the idea for your company come about?
Sleekform was born from after years of working around the globe sitting in the most uncomfortable chairs in various coworking spaces and coffee shops. I wanted to create a chair that your body did not hurt from at the end of the day. A chair that you were happy to sit in and so was your body! We’ve expanded beyond chairs but always keeping our bodies in mind.
What advice do you have for others trying to start their own company?
Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Entrepreneurship is about growth, learning, messing up but coming back and getting it right. If it were easy everyone would do it. Stay strong, stay humble, keep trying, and take baby steps if you need to. Every large moment is a culmination of many small moments.
How can Austinites support your business?
Besides buying them of course :) If you have expertise in furniture making on a mass scale, are interested in the chairs or just want to chat about the idea, reach out to me!
Tell us about your products, why do we need them and how can we get them?
Sleekform is a line of ergonomic furniture, primarily kneeling chairs. It’s been proven (by science and our own bodies) that sitting in a traditional right angle chair does more harm than good. The Norwegians actually invented this style of sitting in the 70’s and it’s become commonplace in Europe over the past four decades. It’s time for Americans to catch up and make key changes to their habits in order to combat workplace ailments that are becoming more prominent and more dangerous to our overall health. You can find us on Amazon, and also on our own website www.sleekform.com
Tell us more about ergonomics...what is that and how does it relate to what you offer?
Ergonomics really just the study of people's efficiency in their working environment. I’m obsessed with adapting the working environment so that we are our most productive, and in order to do that they need to be working in a space that makes them comfortable. Our society doesn’t really allow us to work in a fully ergonomic space, but I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel- we don’t want to ask people to completely change the way they work, we simply want to provide people with an alternative option to what they have because when it comes to sitting we really only do it one way-- and it’s not the best way.
What personal accomplishment are you most proud of?
Living out of a carry-on suitcase for 3 years. I am an excellent packer :) *Before Austin I worked remotely and lived nomadically throughout the globe, never with more than a backpack and carry on suitcase.
What motivates you?
Other women. It’s amazing to hear stories about where they are, where they have come from and where they want to go. I love listening and I am a huge female supporter so if I can be of any help, to anyone, I will be there.
So many things! I love the heat, the interesting things people are doing with their time and the great live music. I chose to be here to be a part of the startup wave happening in the city the cherry on top is that one of my favorite hobbies is testing out new restaurants, Austin has no shortage of those!
What is your current fav song?
Anything by Beyonce. When I need to pump myself up I listen to her and remind myself, we all have 24 hours in the day. Even Beyonce.
